Information Retrieval

Information Retrieval (IR) is the process of obtaining information system resources that are relevant to an information need from a large collection of those resources. It encompasses techniques and methods used to search for information, typically in databases or on the internet, utilizing queries that users input, usually in the form of keywords or natural language questions. The goal of IR is to find and present the most relevant data to the user, which involves ranking and filtering results based on relevance and accuracy. Common applications of information retrieval include search engines, library catalog systems, and various types of database queries. The effectiveness of an IR system is often measured by its precision (the proportion of relevant results retrieved) and recall (the proportion of relevant results that were retrieved out of all relevant results available).
